‘Preserve, Protect and Defend the Constitution.’
On August 16, 2017 by msdarcyonlinePresident Trump is not fulfilling his oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution. His latest statements prove this, and show his lack of moral leadership for our country. It is time that the “stooges” who surround the President invoke the 25th amendment. Every day that Trump is in office, our country is in grave danger: if it is not his threats of nuclear war with North Korea; it is his threat of military action in Venezuela; repeal of the Affordable Care Act, which would affect millions of Americans by leaving them with no medical insurance; to his outright war against the environment.
Trump’s press conference, August 15, from Trump Tower was yet another disaster in his short tenure as president showing the world his extremist beliefs. After blaming “both sides” for the violence in Charlottesville on Saturday, Trump reverted to his original statement and defended his remarks.
With these remarks, he is telling the world that he puts the brave people who are protesting against racism, on the same plane as white supremacist groups. This is pathetic and disgraceful and makes him unfit for the office. Never before has an American president pandered to racism.
Chancellor Angela Merkel immediately condemned what happened in Charlottesville, VA., and said that the White Supremacists were:
“horrible” and “evil,” and “It is racist, far-right violence, and clear forceful action must be taken against it, regardless of where in the world it happens.”
President Obama quoted Nelson Mandela in his tweet:
“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion…”
We should not be surprised by Trump’s statements because he has been saying the same things for years. He constantly challenged the legitimacy of Obama’s presidency, and during his campaign, disseminated false statistics about black crime. He and his father were sued by the Justice Department in 1973 for refusing to rent to African Americans. He attacked a federal judge for his Mexican American heritage, and the list of his inflammatory statements goes on.
There is no place for racial hatred or extremism in the United States, and there is no place for a president who will not make moral distinctions between people protesting against White Supremacists and Neo-Nazis. Even AG Jeff Sessions said the Charlottesville murder and incident was an act of terrorism, and it is being investigated as a hate crime.
It is totally unacceptable for the Republican Party to allow a president, who is incapable of standing up to hatred and intolerance, continue in office. His words have only emboldened white hate groups. Clearly Trump does not represent Americans, and the Republicans need to stand up and reject Trump.
What are they waiting for?
