Humanity, our Planet, and Culture

In the Spotlight: ‘Ellen Degeneres Humanitarian.’

Ellen DeGeneres loves animals and she says,

“They’re smarter than we ever give them credit for. We should respect them.”

Throughout the years, Ms. Degeneres has been a vocal animal rights activist and supporter. She supports many organizations that protect animals and has won awards for her efforts. Amongst them, the Presidential Medal of Freedom bestowed on her by President Obama. This honor is granted to individuals who have contributed to notable change and progress in the United States.  In 2009, she was named Woman of the Year by PETA for promoting animal rights.

PETA, Farm Sanctuary, The Gentle Barn, The Humane Society, Best Friends Animal Society, Petco Foundation, SPCA and Halo Pet Foundation are just a few of the organizations she actively advocates for.

The Halo Pet Foundation’s mission is to help pets in need, eliminate animal abuse and promote responsible pet ownership, specifically through spaying and neutering efforts to reduce the overpopulation of companion animals.

Halo is particularly impressive because 100% of all donations go directly to support exemplary nonprofit organizations who are making a difference for pets and the people who love them.  Zero percent of donations goes to Halo Pet Foundation administrative or fundraising costs; truly unique in today’s world.

Readers, peta.org, is one of my personal favorites of all organizations that fight against injustice to animals. ‘People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals,’  is one of the organizations Ellen supports. PETA’s statement:

“ I am you only different, do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way. We are all animals.”

Thanks readers and stay tuned for my next post in support of animal rights.

Ms. Darcy.
