‘Green World Rising’ says we cannot wait for others to take the first step; citizens and governments need to make our commitments known, and increase our ambition to solve the climate crisis.
Green World Rising is supported by Re:Wild and Leonardo DiCaprio. The organization has produced a series of films on the state of the climate and solutions to the climate crisis. All of the films on Green World Rising are for global distribution and free to the public.
‘Take Meaningful Action’ is presented on their website in eight ways: one of the recommended ways is to make sure our politicians are doing their duty to protect the planet; constituents need to find out how politicians are voting on climate issues, and which politicians are denying climate change. We have to stop voting for politicians who give in to special interests and want to prevent legislation that enables progress on climate change. Another recommendation made by the organization is Regenerative Agriculture, which allows nature to stay healthy, provides for greater food security and reduces water needs. We need to eliminate the use of industrial farming techniques and the use of chemicals. The website explains several ways in which people can take meaningful action, and make a commitment to solving our planet’s climate crisis.
In ‘The Pathway Forward,’ the organization presents measures which local, state and federal governments should all be taking: namely, boost solar and wind energy production, eliminate government fossil fuel subsidies and create a level playing field for clean energy companies, reduce global deforestation which alters the livelihood of indigenous people and destroys vital eco-systems, and promote sustainable agricultural practices which sustain and restore healthy soil.
Companies and NGO’s play a large role in reducing CO2 emissions: Companies and banks could commit to reducing emissions and carbon footprint of their assets, donate to conservation efforts, promote green cities initiatives, and transition to energy efficient appliances, vehicles and carry out regenerative farming techniques, which are just some of the climate commitments needed to bring the climate back to balance, and stated in the organization’s website.
Furthermore, thousands of animal species are in decline and the sixth largest mass extinction on earth is already underway. Pollution, deforestation, industrial agriculture and climate change are causes for habitat degradation. The decline in animal population is caused by human destruction of animal habitats. The cheetah, lion, orangutan and giraffe, are species that now have less than 100,000 members.
Citizens and scientists should not give up their right to speak up and take action to stop the climate crisis. Governments must make an ambitious commitment to make sure that our entire planet does not become toxic!
