Maria Shriver: ‘Advocate for the Wellbeing of Women and their Families.’
On May 30, 2017 by msdarcyonlineI was thinking about what women could be realistic candidates for my survey ‘Who Should be the Next President of the US?’ Maria Shriver had to be on it. Her experience in politics as First Lady of California, a family legacy that includes the presidency of the United States, journalist for ‘NBC News,’ best’selling author, and the doctrine of her life: “ you must do and do big. You must change the world. And you must do this 24/7.” I believe that Maria Shriver could accomplish a great deal as president; she is already making this world a better place! Shriver’s uncle, John F. Kennedy was the founder of the ‘Peace Corps,’ and her father, Sargent Shriver was the organization’s first director. Maria Shriver launched a new volunteer initiative called the Shriver Corps, named in part to honor the legacy of her late father. The Shriver Corps will train volunteers to help poor Americans connect with programs they’re entitled to but that they may not be aware of. Programs such as: tax credits and food stamps, employment, health and child care assistance. A Woman’s Nation
As a strong proponent to support and empower women physically, mentally and emotionally, Maria Shriver is a true inspiration for me, and all of Ms Darcy’s readers who aim to change their own lives; as Shriver coined it, be Architects of Change. Her website shares powerful stories and information written by people who aim to move humanity forward:Maria Shriver Architects of Change.
Shriver’s chairing of the groundbreaking ‘The Women’s Conference,’ provided $6 million in grants to organizations that provide women with micro loans, financial literacy training, domestic violence counseling, and college scholarships, funded a free, three-day clinic for women and a first of its kind march for Alzheimer’s.
In 2010 ´The Women’s Conference´ developed into ‘A Woman’s Nation,’ which focuses on the needs of women and their families. Their three main areas are: Economic Empowerment, Social Justice and Women’s Health. Shriver A Woman´s Nation.
One of this organization’s specific initiatives is Social, the ‘Shriver Report.’ ‘She’s the One’ is a report on women and poverty. In this report it states that “one out of every three women in America lives in or on the brink of poverty.” This made me cry! How can there be so many poor people when we live in the richest country in the world? Why don’t we have universal healthcare? But, that is the subject of my next posts to come!
I would like to add, that Senator Edward Kennedy, Maria Shriver’s uncle, considered health care reform “the cause” of his life. He fought for a single-payer plan that would cover every American. His passion for health care reform grew from personal experiences and and a commitment to justice and equality.
Thank you Maria Shriver for carrying the Kennedy family torch! Through your organization, ‘A Woman’s Nation,’ you are inspiring and informing people in order to help build, in the organization’s words: “a more conscious, caring and compassionate world.” I think that is a great message!
Thank you readers,
Ms. Darcy.
